MAV WOMEN STAND IN SIXTH AT SLC CHAMPIONSHIPS

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Sophomore Tiffanie Reeves (Olney, Texas) barely missed her personal best effort with a put of 14.46 meters (47-05.25) to capture second place in the shot put and earn all-Southland Conference honors Saturday during the second day of the 2005 SLC Outdoor Track and Field Championships here.
UTA stands in sixth place in the 10-team meet with 16 points. Host Sam Houston State leads the meet with 86 points, 12 better than second place Stephen F. Austin. Texas-San Antonio is third with 37, Texas State has 35 points and Lamar sits in fifth with 17.
All 16 Maverick points have come from field events with Reeves and Linda Rosema each earning all-SLC marks with second place marks in the shot put and hammer, respectively.
Sunday's final day will see the finals in the triple jump, pole vault and discus as well as the running finals.
UTA hopes to move up in the standings in the sprints and middle distances. Shana Rash and Ellen Garrison qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 meters. Brittany Williams is a finalist in the 100 meters. Ivorita Taylor and Kristina Bird have qualified for the 800 meters and senior Lisa Haglund is a finalist in the 1,500 meters.
