T&F: UT Arlington returns to the track this weekend

WICHITA, Kan. -- The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams return to action en masse Friday after a week hiatus from competition when both squads compete in the two-day Varsity Apartments Invitational hosted by Wichita State.

The Varsity Apartments Invitational is key for the Mavericks, who will be looking to post more qualifying times for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, which are just three weeks away (Feb. 24-25 in Norman, Okla.).

The UTA men currently hold the No. 12 spot in the South Central Region rankings, while the women are ranked 14th.

The third-annual indoor meet kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday with the women's pentathlon 60-meter hurdles and at 9:45 a.m. Saturday with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Running events begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Other schools competing include: Wichita State, Sam Houston State, UMKC, Doane, Missouri State (women) and Nebraska-Omaha (women).
