MAVS TRACK TEAMS READY TO HEAD SOUTH FOR THE TEXAS RELAYS
March 30, 2009
The UTA track teams are preparing for the Texas Relays on a short week after coming off of it's home meet The Bobby Lane Invitational. The Texas Relays begin on Wednesday and will run through Saturday in Austin, Texas.
Jarid Vaughan and Cordero Gray are both entered in the 100 Meter Dash as well as holding two of the four spots in the 4X100 Relay team. That 4X100 team qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet at the Horned Frog Invitational two weekends ago in Fort Worth and looks to test that time against a larger field of competition at the Texas Relays.
Vaughan and Gray each qualified for that regional meet in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash respectfully last weekend.
On the women's side, junior Jasmine Walls and freshman LaDoreal Thompson are slated to run in the 100 Meter Dash. Walls is coming off a third place finish in the 100 where she barely missed qualifying for regional's for the second week in a row.
The Lady Mavs 4X100 Relay team that posted the best time of 47.12 at the Bobby Lane Invitational is set to run again this week. Walls and Thompson team up with Clarissa Toomer and Antonia Hopkins to run this relay event.
Freshman Ryan Green grabbed a tie for first place in the high jump last weekend for the UTA women with a jump of 1.70 meters. Green will jump for the Lady Mavs on Wednesday.
The University portion of the meet will feature many schools that the Mavericks have not faced since beginning the outdoor season a few weeks ago.
Pac-10 school's Stanford, Washington State and USC will send athletes as well as the SEC that will send Arkansas, Mississippi State and LSU.
Live results of the events will be available at www.texasports.com beginning on Wednesday.
