Track and Field puts in a full day at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa - On the first full day of the Drake Relays, the UT Arlington track and field team posted times good enough to continue competing in Saturday's finals.
Cordero Gray won his 100m prelim in a time of 10.51 which was the second fastest of anyone in the field behind the time of 10.45 Michael Granger of Ole Miss to advance to Saturday's finals.
The Mavericks' women's 4x100 relay team of Jasmine Walls, DeAndrea Smith, Shannon Reynolds and Brittany Culbertson finished with a time of 46.20 which was good for second in their prelim and they also qualified for the finals.
UTA's 4x100 team of Andrew Pettis, Cordero Gray, Aundrea Williams and Juan Lewis ran 41.43, which was second in their prelim, fell just short of qualifying for the finals as did the 4x400, the team of Williams, Isiah Clements, Dwight Robinson and Lewis. They posted a time of 3:13.40, which was good for second in the prelims.
Renan Plama finished second in his prelim in the 110 meter hurdles with a mark of 14.94 and failed to qualify for the finals.
The 4x400 team of Smith, Culbertson, Megan Turner and Reynolds ran 3:46.03 and did not qualify for the finals while the 4x800 relay team of Kisha Gaspard, Perri Ford, Esther Abuto and Jennifer Carey finished eighth with a time of 8:57.02.
In Friday's field events, Wade Hayes finished in a tie for 15th in the pole vault with a mark of 16-4 ¾ feet (5.00 meters). Lionel Mungwari finished 18th in the long jump with a mark of 22-4 ½ feet (6.82 meters) while Ivan Storic was 12th in the javelin with a throw of 187-02 (57.04 meters). He threw the same distance in the prelims.
"America's Athletics Classic", which the Drake Relays are known as, ends Saturday.
