Des Moines, Iowa - It was all about the UTA relay teams on Friday afternoon at the 100th annual Drake Relays.

The men's 4X100 team finished second best among 24 other universities in the prelims of that event. The team of Jarid Vaughan, Cordero Gray, Byron Majors and Takeshi Fujiwara the heat in 40.25 and finished only behind Baylor University. The field for Saturday's finals includes BCS conference schools Alabama, Georgia, Iowa and Michigan State.

Senior distance runner Idilio Campos led the men's 4X800 team to an outdoor season best time of 7:26.47 and sixth place finish in the finals. Ozie Hood, Dwight Robinson and Darren Rous joined Campos to beat their previous time by more than 12 seconds.

On the women's side, the Lady Mavs had two relay teams in action Friday afternoon. The 4X200 team, made up of Jasmine Walls, Clarissa Toomer, Antonia Hopkins and LaDoreal Thompson, finished fifth out of 17 schools in the finals and set a new season best time of 1:37.46. The team narrowly beat its previous time by improving .15 seconds.

The women's 4X200 team, who barely missed qualifying for the regional meet last weekend at the TCU Invitational (.97 seconds off the regional qualifying mark), finished in 15th place in the prelims. The team's time of 3:48.35 was not fast enough to advance to Saturday's finals. Juniors Megan Turner and Antonia Hopkins teamed up with freshman Clarissa Toomer and Markeisha Dudley to run the heat.
