ADOLPHUS JONES FIRST IN THE DECATHALON AFTER A SOLID DAY ONE FOR UTA IN THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nacogdoches, Texas - Adolphus Jones is in first place of the men's decathlon after day one of the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year's meet is being held on the campus of Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Jones got off to a slow start in the decathlon 100 meters with a sixth place finish. The junior finished the race in 11.30 seconds, which is his season best in the event.
His day took a turn for the best in the the long jump, the second event of the day, where he claimed second place with a leap of 6.95 meters. Jones matched that finish in the men's shot put where, once again, he grabbed second with a toss of 12.54 meters.
The highlight of his day came in the high jump where he grabbed a first place finish with a jump of 2.04 meters. This was his second best finish of the year in this event. His best finish came at the Texas Relays where he jumped 2.08 meters.
The St. Kitts and Nevis native is currently in first place after the first day of competiton with 3916 points. His next closest competitor is Tommy Wofle of UTSA who has 3813 points.
The decathlon concludes Saturday with the 110 meter hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin and the 1500 meters.
Jared Cloud is sitting 10th in the decathlon with 3264 points. His best of the day was in the high jump where he finished eighth.
Strong's top perfomance of the day came in the 200 meters 26.13 seconds.
Day two of the Southland Conference Championships begin Saturday with men's 100 meters at 9 a.m.
