AUSTIN, Texas - - UTA senior distance runner Kajsa Haglund broke the school record in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:07.27 at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday night at the Michael Myers Track Stadium here.

The time bettered the previous outdoor mark of 2:07.78 set by Mishael Bertrand in 2001. Bertrand will compete at the US Olympic Trials in July in Sacramento, Calif.

Haglund, who set personal best times in each of ther last three races, finished sixth in heat 1 of the rain-shortened collegiate national meet. She failed to qualify for Saturday's finals, but finished with the 16th fastest time in the preliminary heats, narrowly missing the final qualifying mark of 2:06.504 by UCLA freshman Ashley Caldwell. Tenessee senior Kameisha Bennett had the fastest qualifying time by winning heat 1 with a 2:03.83.
