INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - UT Arlington assistant track and field coach Mishael Bertrand-Berger will compete against the United States' top 800-meter runners Thursday in the first round of the 2006 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships here.
Bertrand-Berger will compete at 4:10 p.m. with qualifiers advancing to Friday night's women's semifinals.
Bertrand-Berger, whose personal-best time is 2:02.44, finished sixth at the 2005 USA Track and Field Championships in Carson, Calif., with a time of 2:03.87. Her top time this outdoor season -- a 2:04.71 at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., on April 15 -- ranks 15th in the nation, but just .50 seconds from ninth nationally.
She finished eighth at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a 2:05.05.
Hazel Clark, competing for Nike, has the nation's top time of 1:59.10.
Bertrand-Berger is an eight-time all-Southland Conference champion and an NCAA Indoor All-American in 2000.
