ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington volleyball team competed in game conditions in front of fans Saturday in the annual Blue-White Scrimmage at College Park Center.
"We did some really good things," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymore said. "I don't think our intensity stayed quite as high as it needed to for a two-hour scrimmage format, but I think once you play somebody else you're automatically going to see their intensity level rise. We'll look forward to that on Friday."
UT Arlington volleyball opens the 2014 season Friday in the College Park Maverick Classic at CPC. The Mavericks face Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. The two-day tournament runs through Aug. 30 and includes Denver and Jackson State.
The Mavericks return 10 players from last season including four starters with Taylor Gross, Ashley Bennett, Amanda Welsh and Caitlyn Cooney. The team also welcomes six new players with four freshmen (Qiana Canete, Savannah Hall, Zhanelle Geathers, Ashlynn Ford) one transfer (Kaitlyn Granger)and a junior (Jordan Holub). Ganger will sit out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Holub spent two seasons with the women's basketball team before joining the volleyball program.
