ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington volleyball defeated University of Louisiana at Lafayette in three straight sets, 3-0, Saturday night in a Sun Belt match at College Park Center.
"You want to get off to a good start in this conference and especially win matches at home," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "I think that's something we're going to pay specific attention to and it's something we've talked about.
"We definitely want to win at home and we want to get some win streaks going and no losing streaks. It was very important to get off to a 2-0 start and make a statement in the conference as we go to the next two opponents on the road."
The Mavericks improved to 9-6 overall, opening Sun Belt Conference play with a weekend sweep and a 2-0 league record.
With both teams tied at seven, UT Arlington pulled ahead with a 5-0 run before UL Lafayette would see another point. The Mavericks continued their pace, winning the first set 25-19. UTA finished with a .300 attack percentage compared to UL Lafayette's .056.
The second set was similar to the first as the Mavericks pulled a head after a 10-10 score winning 25-19 as Gross scored the final point of the set with a kill.
UL Lafayette fought to stay alive in the match through set three, but once again the Mavs took the lead and won the final set 25-19.
Volleyball travels to Georgia State and Western Kentucky Friday and Saturday for its first conference road trip of the season.
