Oct. 11, 2013
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Mavericks fell in four sets to UALR Friday night at College Park Center, dropping their second Sun Belt Conference match of the season.
"We didn't take care of our side of the net," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "They have two players who are going to hit the ball and we know that, but you have to play better volleyball on your side and have better executions and unfortunately we were unable to do that."
The Mavericks (11-8, 4-2 SBC) saw their first point of the match with a kill from Dickson. UTA continued with a 3-0 run before the Trojans scored again for the 8-3 lead. UTA was able to tie the match at ten with a kill from sophomore Stacey Koch. UALR pulled ahead and the Mavs couldn’t catch up as the Trojans took the first set 25-21.
UTA led early, but the Trojans came back with the lead and never looked back winning the second set 25-18. The Mavs grabbed eight block assists in the second set after seeing none in the first.
The Mavericks found a rhythm in the third set leading by ten at one point. UALR made a late push coming within five, but it wasn't enough as Taylor Gross picked up a kill to give the Mavs the set, 25-18.
Once again, UTA was able to take an early lead on the Trojans. UALR tied it up with an attack error from the Mavericks and continued its momentum. The Mavericks came back to tie the match at 22 with a combination block from Whitmore and Dickson. UALR took the next three points winning the set (25-22) and the match.
Shelby Dickson picked up her eighth double-double of the season completing the match with 17 digs and 10 kills. Gross led the Mavs with 11 kills and the team combined for 20 blocks.
