ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team swept the Seattle Redhawks in three straight sets Saturday at College Park Center.
The Mavericks improve to 7-14 overall and 3-6 in the WAC, while Seattle dropped to 7-12 and 2-7.
"It was important to stop a losing streak and hopefully start a winning streak," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "Taylor Gross has done a great job for us today and I think the more important thing about today for her is that she did not play well on Thursday, but bounced back very well today and that’s always a good sign in your players."
The Mavs were able to get out to an early lead after a 3-0 and 5-0 run, and some miss communication from the Redhawks. Shelby Dickson and Megan Casey each picked up an ace in the first set. UTA picked up another 5-0 run and finished the first set with an 8-0 run to take the first set 25-11.
The Mavericks and the Redhawks each had an early 4-0 run in the second set and the teams were neck-and-neck throughout the set. Ashley Bennett and Gross picked up a total of 12 kills during the set. UTA was able to grab a 5-0 run and the set 25-20 and headed into the third set up 2-0.
UTA started set three with six-straight points, but Seattle answered back with five of their own. Gross picked up four kills in the set and 13 throughout the match. The Mavs took the third set 25-19 for the sweep.
The Mavericks remain at home next week as they take on New Mexico State Thursday at 7 p.m. and Denver Saturday at 2 p.m. at College Park Center.
