MAVERICKS DROP SLC HOME OPENER TO LAMAR, 3-0

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas-Arlington volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision against Lamar, 30-28, 31-29, 30-24, in Southland Conference play Friday evening at Texas Hall.
Down 28-23 in game one, Lamar (4-14, 2-4 SLC) won the last seven points to take game one, 30-28. Buchi Okoh and Molli Abel both had four kills to pace the Lady Cardinals. Senior Ashley Van Antwerp had five kills for Texas-Arlington.
In game two, the two teams traded points for most of the time. Ellen Murray kept the Mavericks (3-13, 1-6 SLC) steady with five kills during the game. With the score tied 21-21, Lamar received two points from Maverick attack errors and forced a timeout. Kills by sophomore Ellen Murray and Van Antwerp knotted the score again at 29-29. A kill by Nikki Perry and a service ace by Erica Brown gave the Lady Cardinals the game-two victory, 31-29.
Game three saw both teams trade points again, tying the score, 12-12. Lamar again made a run, going on an 11-4 streak to take a 23-16 lead. The Cardinals held serve the rest of the game, and closed out the match with a 30-24 victory in game three.
Okoh led the Lady Cardinals with 15 kills and setter Ashley Todd handed out a game-high 47 assists.
Texas-Arlington will continue its four-game homestand Saturday evening when it hosts McNeese State (8-6, 3-2 SLC) at 7 p.m. The match will begin at 7 p.m. The Mavericks hold a 26-11 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams split last season's contests.
