ARLINGTON, Texas...Junior Caley Smith led The University of Texas at Arlington with a match-high 22 kills as the Mavericks defeated Northwestern State in four games (30-19, 26-30, 30-18, 30-13) in Southland Conference volleyball action here Saturday. The Mavericks improved to 10-10 on the season and 8-4 in the Southland.
The squads traded points early in game two before the Demons rallied behind seven kills from Evelyn Getzen to push ahead. UTA managed to come within three at 26-29 but it wasn't enough as Northwestern used a Becky David kill to win to tie the match at one game apiece.
The Mavericks used a 7-0 run to take a commanding 17-7 lead. UTA controlled the rest of game three and put away the Demons 30-18.
UTA closed out game four with a 7-1 run to win the game 30-13 and the match, 3-1.
Joining Smith in double-digit kills was Dunn (13) and Hubik (12). Dunn also dished out 46 assists in the win. Smith and Elizabeth Davis led the Mavs defensive efforts with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Friday, October 24 at Lamar University in Beaumont. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Montange Center.
