THIBODAUX, Louisiana - Freshman Amanda Aguilera equaled a career-high 20 kills and recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 digs in UT Arlington's five-set loss against Nicholls State University on Saturday afternoon at Stopher Gymnasium in Thibodaux, La. Nicholls (7-13, 4-6) knocked off the Mavericks 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10, despite trailing 2-1 in its second fifth-set match this weekend. UT Arlington falls to 5-18 overall and to 1-8 in Southland Conference competition.
The Mavericks out-blocked Nicholls, 15-5, but seven blocking errors, 11 reception errors and four ball-handling errors held down the Mavericks who are still searching for their first conference road win of the season. Nicholls was led by three players who all collected at least 14 kills.
UT Arlington started the match with a dominating effort at the net with 12 blocks in the first set. Freshmen Christy Driscoll and Emily Shearin each had three blocks while senior Ally Wade led the team with four kills in the first set.
Wade had 13 kills in the match, giving her eight double-figure kills matches this season. Shearin finished the match with a team-high eight blocks and equaled a season-high three service aces. Driscoll had seven kills and seven blocks in the match for UT Arlington.
The Mavs went up 18-15 after freshman Amanda Aguilera's third kill and a block assist by Shearin and freshman Eld-hah Kaswatuka. Nicholls went on a 4-0 scoring run after a timeout, which forced UT Arlington to call its first timeout of the match as Nicholls regaining the lead, 19-18.
The Mavs finished the first set with a 25-23 victory after going on a 4-1 run to take the lead in the match. Wade collected two kills while Driscoll posted a kill and Shearin notched an ace to close out the set.

Aguilera carried the Mavericks offensively with five kills in the second set. Nicholls' offense was balanced between three players (Chelsey Adams, Rachel Spreen, Rachel Yezak) who all had three kills apiece in the set.
Aguilera put down three consecutive kills, sophomore Raegan Daniel recorded two straight kills and Kaswatuka added one during UT Arlington's 6-1 run which gave them the lead, 15-13, and forced a Colonels timeout in the third set.
The Mavericks went up 2-1 in the match with a 25-21 victory in the third set. Driscoll put down her fourth kill of the match and then Aguilera finished the set with her 14th kill (sixth of the set) of the match to give the Mavs the victory in the third set.
UT Arlington began the fourth set with four straight points coming off two kills (Wade and Driscoll) and two hitting errors by Nicholls. The Colonels followed with their own 7-0 run which led to UT Arlington's first timeout of the fourth set.
After Wade recorded her 11th kill of the match to give the Mavericks a 19-17 lead, Nicholls rattled off seven consecutive points to serve for set point, 24-19. The Colonels finished with a 25-22 fourth-set win, which sent the match into a fifth set.
Nicholls finished the match with nine kills and two aces during the fifth set. Yezak and Adams each tallied 15 kills to lead the Colonels.
UT Arlington will remain on the road with a conference match at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas, on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with a 7 p.m. schedule first-serve at Strahan Coliseum.

UT Arlington drops to 23-9 all time against Nicholls, with an 8-7 record in Thibodaux... The Mavericks are now 13-4 in five-set matches since 2006...
