LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - UT Arlington defeated UALR 3-1 Saturday night in Little Rock in Sun Belt Conference action.
With the win the Mavericks improved to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in SBC standings, tied for second. Heading into the match, UALR was second in the Sun Belt.
Taylor Gross led the Mavs with 16 kills and five total blocks. Shelby Dickson picked up her 10th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Stacey Koch was second on the team with 11 kills. Charmaine Whitmore had nine total blocks and eight kills.
"I thought we played with a lot of confidence tonight," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "Charmaine was back to her old self and she was excited to play in front of her family. We were able to make adjusments tonight and it paid off for us."
The first set was close early, but a 4-0 run from the Trojans extended their lead. A late 5-0 run for the Mavericks won the set 25-20.
With Dickson serving, UALR had an error allowing the Mavs to tie the second set 20-20. UTA kept it close, but the Trojans walked away with the second set 25-23.
UALR was able to score first in the third set, but the Mavericks took the lead and held on. UTA went on a 7-2 run for a 22-14 lead. Koch picked up her 10th kill of the night, giving the Mavericks a 25-15 set win.
The Mavericks were able to carry their momentum into the fourth set winning 25-17.
UT Arlington resumes Sun Belt play Wednesday at Texas State at 6:30 p.m.
