SAN JOSE, California - The Mavericks move to 4-9 in the WAC and 8-17 overall after a four set loss to San Jose State on the road, 12-25, 19-25, 25-16, and 20-25.

The Mavs were unable to control the serve of San Jose State from the start, quickly falling 6-0 in set one. A kill from libero, Valerie Stetzer pulled UT Arlington within two at 9-7. That would be the closest the Mavericks would come to tying the Spartans as they took the first set, 25-12.

Back-to-back kills from Taylor Gross gave UTA a 3-2 lead in set two. San Jose State strung together a five point run mid-set to take control at 12-9. Amanda Welsh earned two aces in a row to close the gap to three, 16-13. However, the Mavericks could not find their rhythm as San Jose State won the second set, 25-19.

Both teams exchanged points and the lead to start the third set. Stetzer changed the pace with nine strong serves in a row, supported by three blocks from Charmaine Whitmore, to earn a 15-5 lead. Shelby Dickson closed out the match with a kill and the win, 25-16.

San Jose State came out in set four firing and earned a quick 4-0 lead. Once again, Stetzer pulled the Mavericks ahead from the serving line, 12-9. The Spartans took control of the set but then their error tied things up at 16-16. Back-to-back kills from Taylor Gross kept the Mavs in the mix but San Jose State would take the match and the set, 25-20.

Shelby Dickson earned her eleventh double-double of the season in digs (10) and kills (11). Gross and Whitmore followed Dickson's 11 kills with nine and eight, respectively. Welsh tallied 28 assists on the night while Caitlyn Cooney notched 25 digs. Whitmore contributed four of the team's ten blocks, all assisted.
