THIBODAUX, La. - UT Arlington volleyball won 3-0 (30-21, 30-14, 30-16) at Nicholls State on Saturday for its second sweep of the week. The Mavs improve to 18-9 overall and 11-3 in SLC action while the Colonels drop to 8-22 and 2-12 on the season.

Sophomore Liz Curry led the Mavs with ten kills for a .375 hitting percentage. As a team the Mavs only had seven hitting errors leading to a .368 hitting percentage.

With an early ace from senior Dani Johnson, the Mavs jumped out to 5-2 lead in game one. Emily Nedderman with an ace of her own, a big block from Gina Kalb and Torie Dacus and a pair of kills from Curry drove the Mavs lead to seven. From there UTA used a 17-14 run to take game one 30-21.

UTA won game two 30-14 after outside hitter Teena Sobczak opened the game serving three straight points for the Mavs. After two points from the Colonels Johnson served seven straight points including an ace to build the Mavs lead to ten (12-2). From there, UTA used an 18-12 run to closeout the game and take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

In game three, the Mavs jumped out to a 7-2 lead and forced Nicholls to burn its first timeout. Michelle Schwartz came in and served a pair of points to give UTA the 19-11 advantage. A pair of blocks from Dacus and Chelsea Taylor and an ace from setter Raegan Daniels helped the Mavs closeout game three with the 30-16 win.

 

 

The Mavs will closeout conference play on the road at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday and Sam Houston State on Saturday.
