ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington fell 3-1 to the Texas State Bobcats Saturday at College Park Center.
The Mavericks fall to 8-19 overall and 4-10 in the Western Athletic Conference, good for eighth in the conference.
“I do not feel the effort was there, not consistently enough,” UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. “I don’t think we get that we’re the underdogs going in to every single match.”
The Texas State Bobcats showed up ready play. The team had 15 kills and an attack percentage of .258 compared to the Mavs’ five kills and negative 0.033 percentage in the first set. Texas State’s Ashlee Hilbun had five kills in the opening set and UTA dropped it 25-14.
The Bobcats made several errors in the second set, as the Mavericks found their rhythm. Texas State won the kill battle 14-13, but UTA was still able to win the set 25-22 to tie the match at 1-1.
UTA struggled early in the third set, but fought hard to keep the score close, but it wasn’t enough and the team dropped it 25-17.
The Mavs took the lead in the beginning of the fourth set, but the Bobcats took it back briefly before the first timeout. The two teams battled as the score went back-and-forth and UTA took the lead 16-14 before the team gave up a serving error to allow the Bobcats within one. The teams were tied at 20, but the Bobcats scored four in a row before the Mavs picked up one, which wasn’t enough. The Bobcats won the fourth set 25-21 and took the match.
The Mavericks are back on the court Thursday, Nov. 8 at Seattle in a WAC match.
