MOBILE, Alabama – UT Arlington volleyball fell at South Alabama in four set Friday night. The loss drops the Mavericks to 15-13 overall and 8-7 in Sun Belt Conference play.
"The match started without us," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "We were once again not prepared to fight. Blocking was good, but our defense and passing was nonexistent - that's a shame because that has been one of our strengths this year. I think USA wanted it more."
Shelby Dickson, Taylor Gross, Stacey Koch and Charmaine Whitmore led the offensive attack for UTA with nine kills each against the Jaguars. Junior setter Amanda Welsh tallied a team-high 22 assists, while freshman setter Cassidy Wheeler led with a .667 attack percentage.
On the defensive side of the ball, Whitmore notched 14 total blocks (three solo and 11 assisted), while sophomore defensive specialist recorded 10 digs to lead the Mavericks. Cooney, Welsh, Wheeler and Ashley Bennett each nabbed an ace in the match.
UT Arlington has a quick turnaround with a Saturday match at Troy on Saturday at 7 p.m.. Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala. will also host the SBC Volleyball Championships beginning Nov. 21.
