ARLINGTON, Texas...Kelly Fletcher led Texas State with a match-high 15 kills as the Bobcats handed The Univeristy of Texas at Arlington a three-game loss in its final home match of the season. Game scores in the match were 30-22, 30-26, 30-21 as UTA fell to 16-13 overall and 12-6 in the Southland Conference.
The Mavericks managed only six kills and a negative hitting percentage as Texas State handed UTA a 30-22 game one loss.
Texas State jumped to an early lead again in game two, but the Mavericks managed to tie the score at nine all with a Heather Dunn kill. UTA, however, couldn't push ahead as the Bobcats built their lead to as many as four. The Mavs continued to fight and pulled within one at 21-22 on a Mindy Hubik kill. Texas State closed out the game on an 8-5 run to win 30-26 and take a two games to none lead into the break.
UTA trailed throughout game three, again coming up short on the offensive end. The Mavs managed only nine kills in the game compared to the Bobcats 17.
Senior Melissa Robinett led the Maveirck offense with eight kills, while fellow senior Elizabeth Davis led the defensive efforts with 16 digs. Junior setter Heather Dunn was the only other Maverick with double figure digs picking up 11 while also dishing out 23 assists.
Texas-Arlington returns to action Tuesday evening as it travels to Northwestern State for a 7 p.m. match.
