ARLINGTON, Texas - The 2012 Academic All-WAC men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball teams have been announced for the fall. A total of 346 student-athletes were named to the list including sophomore setter for the UT Arlington volleyball team, Amanda Welsh.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
Welsh started all 31 matches for the Mavericks in the 2012 season. She led the team in assists per set (8.65) and aces per set (0.27). Welsh was named to the University of Illinois at Chicago Invitational All-Tournament team to start her sophomore campaign and concludes this season with 2012 Academic All-WAC team honors for the Fall.
"I'm glad to hear that Welsh received recognition for her hard work both on the court and more importantly for her efforts in the classroom. It's important for our players to be seen as students first to go along with their commitment to their athletic ability," UT Arlington head coach Diane Seymour said.
