UT ARLINGTON VOLLEYBALL LANDS 10 ON SLC ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
Jan. 23, 2009 Capital One/Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll
ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball program had 10 players named to the Fall 2008 Capital One/Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll which was announced by the SLC on Thursday. The Mavericks were one of only four SLC programs to have at least 10 student-athletes named to the list. Presented by Capital One Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Each Southland institution is responsible in selecting the student-athletes for the fall honor roll. UT Arlington had only three upperclassmen on its roster this past season, all of which made the SLC Honor Roll, including seniors Ally Wade (Psychology) and Michelle Schwartz (Exercise Science) and junior Teena Sobczak (Business). The Mavericks also added three sophomores to the 3.0 honor roll, including Bianca Sauls (Broadcast Journalism), Raegan Daniel (Fine Arts) and Katie Utecht (Undeclared). The four UT Arlington freshmen to earn recognition were Christy Driscoll (Exercise Science), Tara Frantz (Undeclared), Anna Schepcoff (Biology) and Lauren Carpenter (Biochemistry). Seven of UT Arlington's student-athletes were repeat selections, including Wade, Schwartz, Sobczak, Sauls, Daniel, Utecht and Driscoll. Overall, the Mavericks finished the fall 2008 semester with a 3.329 team grade point average, factoring in 14 student-athlete's semester grade point averages.
