ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA volleyball has opened its spring practice season under second-year Head Coach J.T. Wenger.
The Mavs return several standouts from the 2017 season, with Madison Smith, Libbie Vickers, Haley Higgins, Madelyn St. Germain, Kailyn Gilbreath, Madison Helt, Kylie Jedlicka, Madison McConnell and Tessa Harfield each earning significant time on the court.
UTA must replace senior stars in Qiana Canete and Zhanelle Geathers, a pair of All-Sun Belt Conference selections in 2017. Canete exited the program as the all-time leader in kills and is one of only three players to rank among the record holders in both kills and digs. In addition, seniors Allie Deese and Ashlynn Ford, a pair of key contributors from 2017, completed their careers in the fall.
The Mavs are coached by Wenger, a former star at powerhouse UCLA and an assistant coaching veteran at Michigan State, Colorado and the Bruins. Wenger has built a star-studded coaching staff, complete with former UC Irvine standout Austin D'Amore and Auburn great Courtney McDonald. Former UTA great Caitlyn Cooney was a quality addition to the program as a graduate assistant coach in 2017.
