ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington volleyball coach Diane Seymour announced the 2013 volleyball schedule Tuesday. The 2013 schedule, the first season in the Sun Belt Conference for the Mavericks, is highlighted by two home tournaments.
''I am happy with the schedule we put together for 2013,'' Seymour said. ''I think we have a balance of good opponents from various conferences that will prepare us for the move into the Sun Belt. We are looking forward to hosting two tournaments once again, and we will be challenged with a trip to Baylor's tournament that has a very competitive field.''
UT Arlington volleyball will kick off their season at home with the 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational Aug. 30-31. The Mavs will face Abilene Christian on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. to open the year before taking on Grambling State and Louisiana Tech on Aug. 31 at 1:30 and 7 p.m., respectively.
The Mavericks will then take on North Texas in a midweek game Sept. 3 in Denton before traveling to Waco to compete in the Baylor Invitational Sept. 6-7. The Baylor Invitational will pit UTA against tough regional teams in Mississippi State, Baylor and Tulsa.
UT Arlington will host its second home tournament Sept. 13-14 at College Park Center. UTSA, Mississippi Valley State and Texas A&M Corpus Christi will compete in the 2013 Hilton Maverick Classic that weekend. The Mavericks will conclude their pre-conference tournament play at the Appalachian State Tournament in Boone, N.C. Sept. 20-21.
Sun Belt Conference play will begin for the Mavericks at home Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. with the University of Louisiana at Monroe followed by a match against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at College Park Center.
