ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA volleyball has announced its 2018 schedule, featuring 13 home games at College Park Center, it was announced on Thursday by second-year head coach J.T. Wenger.
"Our non-conference schedule will provide us with some great opportunities to learn about ourselves as a program, and grow in preparation for conference play," Wenger said. "We are playing teams ranging from the northeast to the southwest, which will provide some tough competition. It will be a very competitive season in the Sun Belt, as many teams return the bulk of their firepower. We are looking forward to playing in front of our great crowd at the College Park Center this fall!"
For the 2018-19 athletics season, all UTA students receive FREE admission to all home UTA sporting events, provided through the generosity of Texas Trust Credit Union. Season tickets are available for $50, while single-game tickets can be purchased for $6 and group tickets (10 or more) at $3. Season tickets will go on sale Friday, July 6 at 10am at UTAtickets.com while single game tickets are expected to go on sale in early August. McConnell, a junior out of Frisco, Texas, finished her sophomore year in 2017 ranking ninth in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.300). UTA used Germain, Helt, Smith and Vickers in the libero role in 2018. Vickers finished 2017 ranked ninth in the Sun Belt Conference in digs per set (3.88).
UTA will open its 2018 season with a two-day tournament on Aug. 24-25 in Tempe, Ariz., including hosts Arizona State, New Mexico State and Pacific.
UTA then hosts its first of two home tournaments, welcoming Air Force, Loyola Maryland and Binghamton for the Maverick Classic at College Park Center, from Aug. 31-Sept. 1. UTA will face Air Force at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 31 in its home opener, before facing Loyola Maryland and Binghamton on Saturday.
The Mavs will then break from their pair of home tournaments with a Friday, Sept. 7 match at Incarnate Word.
UTA will host the Maverick Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15. UTA will host Grand Canyon at 6:30 p.m. vs. Belmont on Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m. before wrapping up the tournament later on Saturday, Sept. 15, vs. Sam Houston State.
UTA opens conference play with a two-game road swing through Louisiana, facing the Ragin Cajuns on Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to face ULM on Sept. 23 at 12 p.m.
The Mavs host Arkansas State on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and Little Rock on Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
UTA hits the road for a three-game road swing in league action, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Texas State, also facing Georgia State on Oct. 5 and Georgia Southern on Oct. 7.
The Mavs will host defending champion Coastal Carolina on Oct. 12 and Appalachian State on Oct. 13 at College Park Center.
UTA will then venture to Alabama to face Troy on Oct. 19 and South Alabama on Oct. 20. The Mavs will host ULM on Oct. 26 and Louisiana on Oct. 27, before wrapping up their road slate with Little Rock on Nov. 2 and Arkansas State on Nov. 4.
UTA's regular season will conclude on Friday, Nov. 9 vs. Texas State at College Park Center.
Georgia State will host the Sun Belt Conference Championships from Nov. 15-18 in Atlanta, Ga.
