ARLINGTON, Tex. - Head coach Diane Seymour has announced the schedule for the 2011 UT Arlington volleyball season. The UT Arlington Invitational and 11 home matches highlight the Mavericks' 2011 slate.

The Mavericks open the season in El Paso, Texas for a three-match tournament hosted by UTEP. The season-opener will come against Southern on Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. with matches against Portland State and UTEP the following day.

UT Arlington follows the opening tournament with a road match against Metroplex rival North Texas.

The following week, UT Arlington travels to Tulsa for the Golden Hurricane Classic. There, the Mavericks will face Tulsa, which finished No. 20 in the nation last year and went 31-3 overall in 2010 with a 13-0 home record. They will also take on UC Davis, North Dakota State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

UT Arlington heads to California as part of the Hilton Garden Inn Classic in Berkeley, Calif. The Mavs open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 against host California, which finished last year as the national runner-up. Nevada and Georgetown round out the field. UTA faces both teams on Saturday, Sept. 10.

UTA opens its home slate on Friday, Sept. 16 when it hosts Louisiana-Lafayette at Texas Hall at 7 p.m. That match is part of the six-match, four-team UT Arlington Invitational that also includes Prairie View A&M and Texas Tech.

The UT Arlington Invitational launches an eight-match homestand, including the start to the Southland Conference season.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes to Texas Hall for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Sept. 22 for the conference-opener. UTSA (9/24), McNeese State (9/29), Lamar (10/1) and Texas State (10/5) close out the homestand.

After that, the Mavs hit the road for four matches, starting with an Oct. 8 match at Central Arkansas. They follow with road matches at Sam Houston State (10/13), Stephen F. Austin (10/15) and Texas State (10/19).

 

 

The final homestand begins Oct. 22 against Northwestern State. That day will also mark Alumni Day. The Oct. 27 match against Sam Houston State will double as "Dig Pink Night." The Oct. 29 match against Stephen F. Austin marks the final home match of the season.

UT Arlington closes the regular season with four road matches, with the first coming at Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 3. Road matches at Nicholls (Nov. 5), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 10) and UTSA (Nov. 12) follow.

The top eight teams from the regular season will meet for the Southland Conference Tournament, Nov. 18-20 at the Farris Center in Conway, Ark., on the campus of Central Arkansas.
