ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour announced the hiring of Taylor Szypulski as an assistant volleyball coach.

"Her personality struck me as a great fit for us," Seymour said. "She's young, but the way she carried herself and her familiarity with the conference are good fits for us."

Syzpulski played for Sun Belt Conference member Arkansas State from 2010-2013. Her senior season ended early after suffering an injury. Despite the setback, Szypulski made the most of her final year at A-State by moving into a student-coach role.

"Having the opportunity to work under Diane was really important to me," Szypulski said. "She has a great legacy here, and UT Arlington is a great campus and I think there's a lot of good volleyball going to be played here."

"It's very unfortunate for her that her playing career ended with an injury, but I think that's going to play a large role in her coaching career because she has already had to make the transition to step away from the game and see it from a different side other than a player," Seymour said.

"Having the opportunity to work under Diane was really important to me," Szypulski said. "She has a great legacy here, and UT Arlington is a great campus and I think there's a lot of good volleyball going to be played here."

The Mavericks enter their second season in the SBC, but Szypulski has been in the conference for four years.

"She is a little more familiar with the teams in the conference, so that will be an easy transition for her and a good tool for us as well," Seymour said.
