ARLINGTON, Texas – Freshmen volleyball players Cassidy Wheeler and Briana Sharratt participated in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game July 11.

Wheeler played in the setter position for the 4A-5A West Blue Team while Sharratt was a middle blocker for the 4A-5A East Red Team. Wheeler and the West Blue Team defeated Sharratt and the East Red Team in a dramatic five-set match (25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11) at the Toney Burger Activity Center in Austin, Texas.

Wheeler, a native of Kingwood, Texas, tallied 39 assists and six kills while playing in all five sets. Sharratt, of Aledo, Texas, notched eight kills in the match.

Sharratt and Wheeler will make up half of the newcomers for the 2013 UT Arlington volleyball team. They will be joined by Chelsea MarDock, a defensive specialist from Arlington, and junior transfer Taylor Story, an outside hitter from Plano who spent two seasons at Stetson University.

The Mavericks will open their campaign by hosting the 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational at College Park Center August 30-31. UTA will take on Abilene Christian Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m. to kick of the season. For the complete schedule, please click here.
