Aug. 8, 2007
ARLINGTON, Texas - Four members of the 2007 UT Arlington volleyball team were honored on Wednesday as the league announced the Preseason All-SLC Teams. Seniors Torie Dacus and Emily Nedderman garnered first-team honors, while senior Dani Johnson and sophomore Teena Sobczak were named to the second team.
Dacus (Ovilla, Texas) was an automatic selection to the first team after earning first-team all-SLC accolades in 2006. She ranked second on the team with 400 kills and third with 495 digs. She became the 14th member of the 1,000-dig club in 2006 and needs only 228 kills to eclipse 1,000 career kills.
Nedderman (Grapevine, Texas) was also an automatic selection after garnering second-team all-SLC honors following the 2006 season. She led the SLC with 63 service aces in 2006 and dished out 1,476 assists, the sixth most in a single-season at UTA. Her four triple-doubles led the conference and ranked third in the nation.
Johnson (Southlake, Texas) earned preseason second-team honors after putting together one of the most all-around seasons in NCAA. The two-way player recorded 370 kills and 533 digs to become the only player in the SLC with 350 kills and 500 digs. She needs only 94 digs to become the 15th member of the 1,000-dig club.
Sobczak (Plano, Texas) burst on the scene as a freshman in 2006 and led the Mavs with 431 kills and ranked fourth with 467 digs. She ranks second on the school's all-time freshman list for kills and digs, while setting a new freshman record with 1,343 attacks.
The Mavs open the 2007 season on Friday, August 24 against Houston. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
