ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball squad is one week away from first serve of its 2013 season.
The Mavericks have been hard at work with two-a-day practices in order to prepare for the upcoming campaign, which begins at College Park Center. UTA will host Abilene Christian University Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. to open the season. To continue the 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational, the Mavs will face Grambling State Saturday, Aug. 31 at 1:30 p.m. before taking on former Western Athletic Conference rival Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m.
Emotions are running high as the 2013 season opener continues to inch closer for the volleyball team. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Baptiste is excited to see how the Mavericks hard work will pay off in the first match of the year.
"We're all really anxious to play next week," Baptiste said. "We've all become a lot more cohesive and comfortable from preseason practices, which will help us a lot this season. In this next week, I think we just need to be dynamic and keep on preparing for our first match."
Similarly, UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour is ready to have her team back in action.
"It’s exciting to wake up today and know that we are one week away," Seymour said. "The countdown for me has been happening since the final match last season, but now it’s actually here. I think we are ready to go – our players are definitely ready to play someone besides themselves. We just need to do some fine tuning to our rotations and serve receive work."
UT Arlington volleyball's first match Friday, Aug. 30 will begin the Sun Belt Conference era for Maverick Athletics after joining July 1, 2013. For the complete volleyball schedule, click here.
