VOLLEYBALL HEADS TO MUSTANG CLASSIC

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team will look to keep the momentum from the comeback win over local rival TCU as they open up action in the 2006 Radisson Hotel Mustang Classic against Metroplex rival SMU. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Moody Coliseum. Fans can follow the action with live stats on the official athletics website, www.utamavs.com. The tournament will continue on Saturday as the Mavs take on Toledo at 11 a.m. and Grambling State at 5 p.m.
The Mavs are off to a 3-1 start after rallying from an 0-2 deficit to defeat TCU 22-30, 23-30, 30-24, 31-29, 15-11 Tuesday evening at Texas Hall. Freshman outside hitter Teena Sobczak (Plano, Texas) led the offensive charge as she had career bests with 21 kills, 61 attacks, two assists, two service aces, 18 digs and three blocks. She was one of three players to record double-doubles as Torie Dacus (Ovilla, Texas) had 12 kills and 14 digs, and Dani Johnson (Southlake, Texas) had 12 kills and 17 digs. Setter Emily Nedderman (Grapevine, Texas) recorded a triple-double with 49 assists, 10 digs and 10 blocks.
The Mavs and Mustangs are meeting for the 13th time with UTA holding a 9-3 advantage in the series. UTA is 5-3 against the Mustangs since the school resurrected its program in 1996. The Mavs will be playing Toledo and Grambling for the first time.
UTA will return to its home court on Sept. 8-9 when it hosts the 2006 Hilton Arlington/UTA Invitational. Matches will be played at Texas Hall at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on both days. UTA will open the tournament against Louisiana-Lafayette at 12 p.m.
