ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington Mavericks will travel to Denton to face North Texas in their first road match of the 2013 season Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Mavs are seeking their first 4-0 start since 2004, UTA coach Diane Seymour’s first season at the helm.
The Mavs hosted the Mean Green last season and fell in a five set thriller at College Park Center (26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 17-25, 10-25). Despite the loss last year, UTA leads the all-time series against UNT, 53-7.
UT Arlington is coming off a weekend sweep with wins over Abilene Christian (3-2), Grambling State (3-0) and Louisiana Tech (3-1). The Mavericks were crowned 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational champions by reaching a 3-0 mark to begin the season.
Sophomore defensive specialist Caitlyn Cooney was named MVP of the 2013 UTA Hilton Invitational and to the all-tournament team. Juniors Taylor Gross (outside hitter) and Amanda Welsh (setter) joined Cooney in earning all-tournament team honors.
After the mid-week match with the Mean Green, the Mavericks will travel south to the Baylor Classic in Waco on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 6-7). UTA will open the tournament with a match against Mississippi State on Friday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. The Mavs will start day two of the tournament against host Baylor at 10 a.m. before facing Tulsa at 4:30 p.m.
