Sept. 4, 2014
ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington volleyball will travel to Lake Charles, La. this weekend to take part in The Big Daddy's Invitational hosted by McNeese State. The Mavericks will play matches against Houston, McNeese State, Louisiana Tech and Jackson State.
Friday at 12:15 p.m. the Mavericks will open up the invitational facing Houston. UT Arlington holds a 20-27 record all-time against the Cougars with the Mavs trailing 6-8 on a neutral court. The last match between the two teams came in 2008 when Houston swept UTA 25-13, 25-8, 25-21 in Arlington.
UT Arlington will wrap up Friday's action when they take on McNeese State at 7 p.m. The Mavericks hold a 31-15 record over McNeese State with the last meeting coming in 2011 when UTA recorded a five set win (26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 25-12, 15-11) over the Cowgirls. The last time the Mavs played McNeese State in Lake Charles was in 2010 when they swept the Cowgirls 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
The Mavericks will open up Saturday by taking on Jackson State at 11 a.m. UT Arlington is 2-0 all-time against the Lady Tigers with one of those victories coming earlier this season at the College Park Maverick Classic where the Mavs swept Jackson State 25-14, 25-9, 25-17.
The final match of the invitational for the Mavericks is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. when they take on Louisiana Tech. UTA has an all-time record of 7-2 when playing Louisiana Tech, including a 2013 victory where the Mavericks took down the Lady Techsters at home in 2013 claiming the match in four sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15).
UTA has showed an improved offense this season hitting .311 compared to .186 at this point in the season last year. A big reason for that jump is due to the play of junior OPP Stacey Koch who has recorded a team-high 41 kills and a hitting percentage of .591.
