VB: Mavs Wrap up Road Swing at Texas State

ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA volleyball concludes a season-long five-match road swing at Texas State, slated for 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday night at Strahan Coliseum.

UTA (8-11, 2-4 Sun Belt Conference) has been in the midst of a five-match stretch on the road in conference play. Over trips to Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Little Rock and now Texas State, the Mavs have traveled an estimated 4,000 miles. Last weekend, the Mavs fell in three sets at Arkansas State - the defending division champs - before suffering a five-set loss at Little Rock on Saturday.

The Mavs have totaled a .198 attack percentage as a team, averaging 12.3 kills, 11.3 assists and 14.9 digs per set. Offensively, junior Zhanelle Geathers paces the club with 3.62 kills per set, adding a career-high 73 digs. Senior Qiana Canete averages 3.55 kills per set, owning 30 assists and 3.100 digs per set. Canete ranks eighth in UTA history in digs and kills, one of just three players to rank among the leaders in both categories.

Freshman setter Kailyn Gilbreath leads the team with nine assists per set, owning 44 kills and 1.78 digs per set. Sophomore Madison McConnell has 1.59 kills and a team-high 0.59 blocks per set. Freshman Tessa Harfield as added 66 kills and 0.49 blocks per set, with sophomore Kylie Jedlicka owning 1.79 kills and 2.35 digs per set. Sophomore setter Haley Higgins averages 7.05 assists per set, with libero Libbie Vickers sporting a team-high 3.79 digs per set.

Texas State (14-7, 5-1 Sun Belt) enters the match as one of the hottest teams in the nation, winning six straight matches and sitting in second place in the league standings. The Bobcats opened their conference schedule with a loss in three sets to South Alabama but have ripped off five straight wins since the setback, including four conference wins. Texas State is coming off a four-set win over TCU on Tuesday 


 

 

The Bobcats have totaled a .187 attacking percentage, with 13.5 kills, 12.8 assists and 16.3 digs per set as a team. Individually, Megan Porter leads the team with 3.21 kills per set, adding 3.22 digs per set. Micah Dinwiddie paces the team with 3.81 digs per set, with Erin Hoppe sporting 7.14 assists per set.

UTA leads the all-time series with Texas State, 42-35 but the Bobcats lead the series in San Marcos, 17-12. The Bobcats have won seven straight in the series with UTA's last win coming in 2013 and its last win in San Marcos coming in 2006.
