ARLINGTON, Tex. - Amanda Aguilera recorded 10 kills and 13 digs to become the 12th player in UTA history to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during a career.
However, UT Arlington still lost 3-0 to Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas on Thursday night despite being competitive in each set.
"We didn't play horribly, we just made some very significant errors at bad times," acting head coach Erin Clute said. "Our team didn't do a good job of executing the game plan as it was laid out, and it led to some frustration."
The Mavericks (7-14, 3-4 SLC) hit for .144, while the Bearkats posted a .205 attack percentage in the 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 loss.
Tara Frantz, who is coming off her first SLC offensive player of the week award, had 14 kills in another strong performance.
The Bearkats were led by Kim Black, who had 15 kills at an efficient .545 attack percentage. She also added eight blocks.
The Mavericks continue their road trip Saturday when they play Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. Coach Clute said an early start is crucial to get back in the win column.
"They just have to get themselves going faster. They opened slowly and and are setting themselves up for ups and downs," Clute said. "They just need to execute and clean up on errors."
First serve is set for 1 p.m.
