VB: Mavs Host Pair of Matches for Homecoming

ARLINGTON, Texas --
Winners of four of its last seven matches, UTA volleyball will wrap up its regular-season schedule with a pair of matches at College Park Center, hosting ULM on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Louisiana on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.  Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN3, with Pete Stein and Josh Sours voicing the action.

UTA (12-15, 6-8 Sun Belt Conference) will wrap up its regular-season schedule with the pair of matches as part of UTA's homecoming weekend, which features a basketball doubleheader on Saturday. The Mavs have already clinched a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Championships next week in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Mavs have been led by senior outside hitter Qiana Canete, who last weekend set the all-time record for kills. A native of Copperas Cove, Texas, Canete is averaging 3.57 kills and 3.10 digs per set. UTA has gotten 3.38 kills per set from Zhanelle Geathers, who has added a career-high 83 digs. Sophomore Kylie Jedlicka, who had 20 kills in a win over Little Rock last Friday, is averaging 2.47 digs and 2.18 kills per set. Sophomore Madison McConnell sports 1.44 kills and 0.62 digs per set, leading the team with 0.63 blocks per game. Setters Kailyn Gilbreath (9.00) and Haley Higgins (6.73) lead the club in assists, with liberos Libbie Vickers (3.99), Madelyn St. Germain (3.48) and Madison Smith (2.00) leading the team in digs.


 

 

ULM (5-26, 1-13 Sun Belt) is coming off a weekend split in Alabama, posting a five-set win at Troy before suffering a four-set setback at South Alabama. The Warhawks have totaled a .144 attacking percentage as a team, averaging 10.6 kills, 9.8 assists and 14.3 digs per set. Mikaela Worley leads the offense with 2.30 kills per set, adding 2.32 digs.

Louisiana (19-9, 12-2 Sun Belt) has won four straight matches entering the weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns have totaled a .219 attacking percentage, with 12.6 kills, 11.9 assists and 16.9 digs per set. Hali Wisnoskie leads the team with 2.82 kills per set, with Sydney Davis leading the team with 4.92 digs per set. 

The Mavs lead the all-time series with ULM, 46-3, including a 20-2 all-time record in games played in Arlington. UTA has won four straight meetings in the series. UTA leads the series with Louisiana, 16-2, including an 11-0 mark in games played in Arlington.
