ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington's Melissa Marek was named to the Academic All-District VI Women's Volleyball first team announced today by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA). The team consists of six members and is voted on by members of CoSIDA. Marek will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-American honors to be released on December 2.
The middle blocker has appeared in 95 games for the Mavericks this season and is averaging 1.76 kills and ranks second in the Southland Conference with 1.14 blocks per game.
The accounting major owns a 3.986 grade point average and was named to the Academic All-America District VI second team in 2003.
Joining Marek on the first team is Adah Burke (New Mexico), Jackie Choi (New Mexico State), Catherine DuPont (Rice), Krystal Kolkhorst (Texas State) and Rebeca Pazo (Rice).
The Mavericks will close out regular season play at Texas Hall this weekend when they play host to Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana. Both matches will be played at Texas Hall and are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
