2008 All-Southland Conference Volleyball Teams Get Acrobat Reader

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Southland Conference announced its 2008 All-Conference Volleyball teams on Tuesday morning and UT Arlington freshman Amanda Aguilera received First Team All-Conference recognition. In her first collegiate season, Aguilera led the Southland Conference averaging 3.68 kills per set in conference play and collected 10 double-double in 16 SLC matches.

Aguilera, an outside hitter from Pearland, Texas, becomes the eighth UT Arlington freshman to earn First Team All-Conference honors and is the first since 1993.

She led the Mavericks in four statistical categories, including kills (314), kills per set (2.85), attempts (939) and service aces (32). Aguilera's standout freshman season ranks her in three all-time UT Arlington freshman top-10 record books, including eighth in kills, fifth in attempts and 10th in digs.

Her 24 kills on the road against Lamar were a season-high and was the most by any Maverick this season. She tallied a season-high 23 digs against McNeese State and twice she notched five service aces, marking the most by any UT Arlington player this season.

Aguilera led the team collecting at least 10 kills in 14 matches and she also posted 13 matches with a double-figure digs total, including 11 in SLC play.

ALL-CONFERENCE NOTES: Central Arkansas's Chloe Smith (Player of the Year), Jessica Hays (Freshman of the Year) and Robyn Smith (Setter of the Year) all claimed top recognition while UCA head coach Steven McRoberts was named Conference Coach of the Year... UTSA's Stefanie Robbins was named the Newcomer of the Year and Roadrunner libero Kelsey Jewasko was selected the Libero of the Year.
