Chile Pepper Festival Women's Individual Results Get Acrobat Reader

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 20th annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday morning. The Maverick men finished in 15th place with two runners completing the 10,000 meter race inside the top 100 runners, while the UT Arlington women took 23rd place in the 6,000 meter race with 306 total runners.

The women's race was won by Texas Tech with 72 points. Arkansas was runner-up with 101 total points and SMU took third place with 139 team points. Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego won the women's 6K with a time of 19 minutes,26.91 seconds.

The Mavericks top runner in the women's race was senior Caroline Erlingson, who finished 86th with a time of 22:41.76. Two other Mavs were inside the top-125 as junior Christina Mose (23:04.99) finished 120th and sophomore Amanda McMahon (23:09.24) took 125th.

Sophomore Perri Ford (23:29.73 - 147th) and freshman Jennifer Carey (23:46.12 - 167th) were among the top runners for UT Arlington.

The men's race was won by Texas A&M with 52 points, while host-school Arkansas (75 points) finished in second place and Lamar (120 points) finished third. Freshman Daniel Kirwa of Harding won the meet with a time of 28 minutes, 53.41 seconds.

The Mavericks, who finished with 418 points, were led by senior Idilio Campos' 41st-place finish with a time of 30:45.39.

Senior Ozie Hood (31:55.48) also finished inside the top-100 with an 84th place finish. Sophomore Zach Zura (32:52.19 - 125th), sophomore Heinz Schwarzkopf (33:34.71 - 154th) and freshman Taylor Gill (34:01.98 - 173rd) finished out the top five runners for the Mavericks.

The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country squads will next compete at the Southland Conference championships on Monday, Nov. 3, at Nacogdoches, Texas. The women's meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 9:15 a.m.
