MAV WOMEN PLACE FIFTH AT CONFERENCE MEET

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - - UT Arlington runners Jody Broccoli-Hickey, Idilio Campos and Ozie Hood earned all-Southland Conference honors and propelled the men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the 2007 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships here Saturday morning.
A senior, Hickey earned his first all-conference honors of his career with a sixth-place finish with a time of 25-minutes, 04-seconds over the 8,000-meter course on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Campos, a junior from the South Texas town of Mission, took eighth place with a 25:15 and Hood, a sophomore from Mansfield Summit High School was ninth with a 25:21.
Newcomer Garrett Yuen was 56th with a 27:57.
Lamar defended their team title with 37 total points to edge runner-up A&M-Corpus Christi's 44. UT Arlington (73), Stephen F. Austin (116) and McNeese State (126) round out the top five. UTSA )172), Sam Houston State (209), Texas State (221), Southeastern Louisiana (251), Central Arkansas (269), Northwestern State (301) and Nicholls State (330) completed the field.
On the women's side, UT Arlington tallied 112 points for a fifth-place finish.
Freshman Annabelle Everitt was the top Maverick with a 12th-place finish with a time of 22:02 over 6,000-meter.
Senior Carranda Mose was 13th with a 22:06 while sophomore Ida Landgraff, competing in her first meet of the season, was 16th with a 22:14.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defended their home soil to win the league title for the first time in school history with 48 points. Defending champion Lamar was second with 52 points followed by Stephen F. Austin (98), Texas State (11), UTA (112), Central Arkansas (175), Sam Houston State (203), UTSA (207), Nicholls State (245), Southeastern Louisiana (261) and Northwestern State (296).
Both the UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams have qualified to compete at the NCAA South Central Regionals meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on Nov. 10.
