YOUNG RUNNERS MAKE MARK AT REGIONALS

WACO, Texas - UTA sophomores Jodi Hulett an Jody Broccoli-Hickey posted top-50 finishes to highlight the day for UTA at the 2005 NCAA South Central Region Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Bear Ridge Golf Course here.

Hulett clocked a time of 23-minutes, 8.9-seconds to finish in 44th place.

In the women's division, three Mavs competed as individuals in the tune up for the NCAA Championships.

Senior runner Heather Isbell placed 56th with a 23:35.20 and freshman Shannon Pardue was 93rd with a time of 24:51.45.

Baylor's Brittany Brockman won the 6,000-meter race with a 20:47.20.

Arkansas was the team champion by narrowly defeating Baylor, 45-46. Rice finished third (78) and Southland Conference champion Lamar was fourth with 115 points. Stephen F. Austin was fifth with 159 points followed by Texas A&M (193), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (196) and TCU (240). With only three runners competing, UTA was not eligible for the team standings.

Broccoli-Hickey clocked a time of 33:34.1 to cross the tape in 47th place in the men's division.

Freshman Idilio Campos (LaJoya, Texas) capped off a strong year with a 76th place finish with a time of 34:33.25.

Former Texas runner Westley Keating, became the first Texas-Pan American runner to win the region with a time of 29:30.75.

Arkansas won the team title with 33 points. Texas finished second with 46 points. With only two runners competing, UTA was not eligible for the team standings.
