UT Arlington opens the season with the Islander Splash, Aug. 31, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the site of the 2007 Southland Conference Championships set for Oct. 27.

A trip to the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., will feature several of the nation's top 10 teams including Arkansas, Kansas and host Oklahoma State. The final tune up before the SLC Championships will be at the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Hosted by Arkansas, the meet is at the site of the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championship, Nov. 31. Arkansas was ranked second in the national in the final women's poll in 2006 and third in the men's poll.
"This schedule will give our athletes a chance to compete against nationally-ranked individuals and programs," said UTA Head Cross Country Coach John Sauerhage. "The quality opposition will force us to compete at the highest level. We will face some of the best teams in the country at Oklahoma State and Arkansas. It should prepare us well for the conference meet."
The UT Arlington men's team returns its top five runners, including senior Jody Broccoli-Hickey. Hickey finished 13th at the SLC Championship last fall and then freshman Armando Saldivar took 17th place at the conference meet.
The women's team returns senior Carranda Mose and the sophomore tandem Caroline Erlingson and Ida Landgraff. Mose (12th/22:23) and Landgraff (14th/23:35) finished in the top 20 at the conference meet last year.
