Rain or Shine, Cross Country Set for UTA Season Opener
Sept. 9, 2010
Arlington, Texas - With one meet under their belts, the UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams will have home advantage Saturday morning, when they host the UT Arlington Season Opener at Vandergriff Park.
The season opener consists of six teams that includes North Texas, TCU, Texas A&M-Commerce, Pull Quinn, Baylor and SMU (women only).
"The competition will be a lot stiffer so I look for us to run much better," said Head Coach John Sauerhage. "We have had good workouts and we're ready to start showing what we got."
Last week, the Mavs competed at the Midwestern State Invitational where the women took third while the men cross the finish line in fourth.
Freshman Emily Koenig led the women's team with a first place finish in the 4k and earned herself Southland Conference Athlete of the Week honors.
"I feel with us at home we'll be in our normal routine for competition, so look for our team to have a much better performance at this meet than we did previously," said Sauerhage.
The women are set to run at 8 a.m. while the men will begin at 8:30 a.m.
