HARRIERS RANK EIGHTH IN REGION

UT Arlington women make strong showing in opening poll

After winning the Movin' Mavs Cross Country Challenge last weekend, the UT Arlington women's cross country team moved into the top 10 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region poll on Monday.

UT Arlington is ranked eighth in the region. Arkansas, last year's region champ and a fifth-place finish at the national meet, is ranked number one followed by Baylor, Texas A&M, Lamar, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Rice before UTA.

UT Arlington scored 35 points to defeat SMU, North Texas and Central Arkansas in the season-opening meet of the year. Sophomore Caroline Erlingson (12:01) finished fourth in the meet. Freshman Annabelle Everritt was fifth with a time of 12:03. Senior Magan Moore, a transfer from SMU, finished sixth at with a 12:17. Senior Carranda Mose was ninth with a 12:21. Newcomer Perri Ford was 11th with a 12:29.

In the men's poll, UT Arlington held their position at 10th in the South Central region. The Mavericks won the Movin' Mavs Challenge. Junior Idilio Campos, senior Jody Broccoli-Hickey, sophomore Ozie Hood and sophomore Armando Saldivar finished in the top eight.
