HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The UT-Arlington women's cross country team had four runners in the top 14, but it wasn't enough as Stephen F. Austin claimed the 2003 Southland Conference Cross Country Championship here Monday, Nov. 3.
UTA finished with 72 total points, two ahead of third-place Lamar's 74. SFA won the meet with 42 points.
Senior runner Lisa Haglund (Bastad, Sweeden) was third in the individual race with a time of 17-minutes, 40.40 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. Kasja Haglund (Bastad, Sweden) was fifth at 18:02.10 on a hot, muggy morning in east Texas. Both runners qualified for the 2003 NCAA South Central Region Cross Country Championship, Nov. 15 in Waco.
Defending women's champion, Ana Rodriguez of Stephen F. Austin won the race with a 17:11.80.
In the men's competition, UT-Arlington took fifth place with 148 total points.
Erik Petersson was the top Maverick runner at 25:52.50 over the 8,000-meter course. Junior Jacob Cedertun was 19th with a 27:04.50.
Stephen F. Austin won the men's division easily, posting a team score of 34 points - 40 better than second-place Sam Houston State.
